Some of Finland’s top scientists and specialists came together in the mid 1990’s to analyze the problems related to musculoskeletal rehabilitation. The team of experts, led by Professor Simo Taimela, consisted of researchers, clinicians and engineers that began evaluating the passive approaches used in physiotherapy and musculoskeletal pain treatment at the time. The initial research findings of Professor Taimela’s group clearly pointed towards active rehabilitation as the future in the field.
Dr. Simo Taimela continues today as the Medical Director for DBC International. Dr. Taimela’s qualifications as a Doctor of Medical Science, along with the professorships in Epidemiology, Physiology and Exercise Physiology, and more importantly his application of this knowledge to DBC, has made him a corner stone in the design, development and application of the DBC technology and methodology. Dr. Taimela’s continuing investigations into musculoskeletal disorders have resulted in over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, more than 20 publications in Finnish medical journals and dozens of national and international presentations in professional meetings and congresses.
